Innovate UK Launches £15m Manufacturing and Materials Competition

Innovate UK has a funding pot of £15m to invest in innovation projects that lead to increased productivity, competiveness and growth for UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Projects may focus on technical feasibility, industrial research or experimental development.

Key information:

  • Project values: £50k to £2m over 6 months to 3 years;
  • Funding levels: up to 70% for a small business, 60% for medium and 50% for large;
  • Projects below £100k/12 months can be run by a single applicant; above this you need to work with at least partner (1 of the partners needs to be a SME);
  • Grant funding is not repayable and Innovate UK take no equity, IP or commercial rights over the project;
  • Application deadline is 12pm on 25th January 2017

A project must cover at least one of the following areas:

  • innovation in a manufacturing system, technology, process or business model. For example, in process engineering, industrial biotechnology, mechanical conversion processes, coatings, surface engineering, textiles, supply chain management, new product introduction processes or remanufacture
  • innovation in materials development, properties, integration or reuse. For example, for light-weighting, energy generation and storage (heat and electricity), electronics/sensors or operation in demanding environments
