The City Business Library, located next to the City of London’s historic Guildhall, is a not for profit public library specialising in business information, seminars and workshops, and it supports around 50,000 customers each year. It is the only dedicated public library for business information offering free access to the UK's most comprehensive collection of business databases and publications, including general start up advice, information on market research, plus national and international coverage for statistics, company data and business news.

City Business Library hosts a range of seminars aimed at helping new or existing businesses, on topics including online marketing, networking, social media, presentation skills and more. The seminars are run by independent consultants and business support organisations. Last week David Farbey, Senior Technical Consultant at Myriad Associates, presented a seminar at City Business Library on “Public Funding for your Business”. David’s seminar covered a range of topics of interest to owners of small and large businesses, including research and development tax incentives for UK businesses, research and development grants available from UK government and EU sources, research and development capital allowances, and video games tax relief.

David also discussed ways of accessing some non-governmental sources of business finance including crowd funding, venture capital, angel investors, and start-up loans. David explained that tax incentives were available not only to companies, but also to individual investors, through the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme.

At the end of his presentation, David was on hand to respond to a range of questions from an enthusiastic audience. David has been invited to speak again at City Business Library next February and next April, and booking information will be published here as soon as it is available. If you would like to invite David to speak at your business group please contact Myriad Associates.
